Effective protection of a territory classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What's happening

Sintra-Cascais Natural Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995 and is one of the most protected territories in the country. The revision of Sintra's Municipal Master Plan, currently under discussion, proposes reclassifying land that is today protected, opening the way to high-rise construction and new developments within the Park's boundaries.

The Finis Terrae association warns that the proposal threatens ecological corridors, watercourses and the landscape heritage that led to the mountain range's international classification. The public petition delivered to Parliament already has over 1,482 signatures.

The Master Plan revision remains under public consultation, with information sessions scheduled throughout the year.
