What's happening
The project plans to install around 25,000 photovoltaic panels next to the existing Penedo Ruivo Wind Farm, in Serra do Marão, between 1,120 and 1,220 metres of altitude.
FAPAS warned of erosion and habitat loss risks in one of the highest-altitude areas of the North region, with direct impact on birds of prey and high-altitude vegetation cover.
The public petition filed against the project asks for the environmental impact assessment to be reviewed before any final licensing decision.
