Girabolhos Dam

The Girabolhos Dam project, on the Mondego River between Seia and Gouveia, has been relaunched to public tender after decades on hold. The Government presents the project as a response to flood risk in the region.

GEOTA disputes this justification, pointing out that the dam's profile and location would not have contained the water volume responsible for the recent floods used to justify the project.

The "Rios Livres" public petition calls for the project to be reassessed in light of its impact on aquatic wildlife and the natural dynamics of the Mondego River.
